- Determine the strengths and weaknesses of the child’s communication skills
- May result in a referral, recommendation or further testing
Therapy
- Treatment of expressive, receptive and/or pragmatic language problems
- May help with articulation, fluency, resonance and/or oral feeding problems
Consultations
- Provide a quick snapshot of a child’s communication skills
- May lead to a recommendation for a full evaluation
Assistive technology/device procurement through insurance
- Recommendations to select a particular device that will enable a child to communicate
- Coordination with the parents’ insurance provider to seek approval to procure a communication device
- Training for use of the device (for parents and child)
Parent education and empowerment
- Training and education for parents, either in an individual or group setting
- Enables parents to carry out certain elements of speech and language therapy at home, and allows them to make long-term improvements on their own
